Our test and tag service for Rest Homes
We are THE test and tag experts for rest homes and all aged care facilities. Professional, cost-effective electrical testing for safety and OSH compliance.
The Ministry of Health says electrical testing must be part of a residential facility’s safety activities. The Electricity Act 1992, the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and Occupational Safety and Health regulations put the duty of care on both the employer and the employee to ensure the safety of all people using the facility, as with any other work premises. See HealthCERT Bulletin, Issue 3 April 2011 for details.
We know you understand the need to comply with your obligations. And we know you don’t want an insurance claim denied if there’s a fire due to untagged/unsafe appliances. Or to fail an OSH audit. Or have a resident or staff member harmed. Or to face prosecution if, heaven forbid, it ever happened.
Electricity Regulations refer to NZS 3760 in-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment as a means of ensuring safety with electrical equipment.
We are THE NZS 3760 test & tag experts. We know you want the job done properly and inexpensively in a way that’s respectful to your residents and staff.
So you need peace of mind that your appliances have been tested according to the correct Standard, by a reputable company with experience and knowledge. All for a price that won’t blow your budget.

More about Comply Guy’s test and tag service for rest homes…
Choose an established company you can trust
We are test and tag specialists who genuinely care about compliance. We’ve looked after the aged care sector for over 7 years. We’ll make sure you are fully compliant with your obligations. And that your residents and staff are kept safe.
As well as being proficient, our technicians are trustworthy and ethical. All have been chosen carefully and screened via Police checks.
Courtesy is also a priority. For example, we will never turn off a computer without first clearing it with staff. Our aim is to be as unobtrusive as possible.
Keeping you compliant forever!
We’ll keep you compliant now and into the future by reminding you when it’s time for re-testing. You won’t even have to think about it. We’ll provide the same consistent level of service going forward so all your compliance concerns will be taken care of.
Flexibility to fit in with you
We know you have elderly residents to keep happy and that your staff won’t appreciate chaos either. Luckily we work fast and we’re very respectful – we won’t invade the place! We are happy to liaise with you about what works best in order to minimise disruption.
Tailoring our service to your specific requirements
Comply Guy doesn’t do “one size fits all”. Tell us what you need and we’ll customise our service for you.
The benefit of specialist technicians
We are specialist technicians, not generalists. Sharp skills are honed through repetition. Testing and tagging is our 100% focus, which makes us very fast and efficient. That of course means great value for you – and less disruption too.
Why not just use your electrician?
It could well cost you more. Most electricians have broad knowledge and work on an hourly rate. A general electrician will take longer if they don’t have our high-speed testing equipment, our compliance experience and speed, or our super-efficient systems. And if it takes longer, it costs more. See next point…
Value for money
Compliance is just one of the many costs of running a rest home so wouldn’t you like to be compliant for less? With our highly-honed skills, specialist testing equipment and super-efficient systems, we can get the job done for a price that won’t send your accountant apoplectic.
How long will it take to test and tag everything?
It depends on the number of appliances that need to be tested, and how accessible they are. We can generally test and tag 15-30 per hour.
How much will it cost to test and tag everything?
It depends on the number of items to test at our quoted rate. We’ll give you a free, no-obligation quote so you can make an informed decision.
What do we have to do to prepare for the job?
Notify your staff that we will be testing all of their appliances for safety and may need them to save their work and turn off their computer for about 5 minutes. We will take care of everything else.
How often do we have to test and tag our electrical appliances?
It depends on the environment of the appliance. Here is an indication of the maximum interval between tests…
- Any new or untagged appliance: Before use in any work place.
- Work areas and cleaning equipment: 6 monthly.
- Public areas of rest homes, and all other areas not mentioned: 1 yearly.
- Residential areas of rest homes: 2 yearly.
- Some office and protected appliances: 5 yearly otherwise 1 yearly.
Do we have to turn all the equipment off for you to test and tag?
Yes please, if possible. We can do basic safety tests with appliances on if required.
Do we really need to do it?
Yes, as stipulated by electrical and OSH regulations. The Ministry of Health says electrical testing must be part of a residential facility’s safety activities. You don’t have to use Comply Guy for your electrical testing, but you must do it nonetheless.
Will you remind us when our next test is due?
Yes, we will contact you when re-testing is due.
What about asset registers?
We are skilled at creating asset registers. Let us know if you want one and we’ll include the price in your quote.
Is there any impact on our insurance policies?
Insurance policies generally require you to employ due care and diligence to prevent loss to your property. If an untagged/unsafe appliance causes a fire, your insurance claim could be declined on the grounds you did not take “reasonable care” to prevent loss to your property.
