Our test and tag service for Schools… MoE and OSH compliance guaranteed!
We are THE test and tag experts for schools and the education sector. Professional, cost-effective electrical testing for MoE and OSH compliance.
Boards of trustees are responsible under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, the Electricity Act 1992 and the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 to ensure electrical appliances in use at the school are safely maintained and safe to use.
See the Electrical equipment testing on school sites page of Minedu website for details.
The Electricity Regulations refer to NZS 3760 in-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment as a means of ensuring safety with electrical equipment. The MoE requires boards to comply with NZS 3760.
We are THE NZS 3760 test and tag experts. We know you want the job done properly and inexpensively. And we know you want to protect the children from harm and the board from prosecution.
Testing must be done by a competent person, who is described in the NZS 3760 standard as a person with the necessary practical and theoretical skills acquired through training, qualifications and experience to correctly do the tasks in the Standard.
As the employer, the board is considered the responsible person for the purposes of NZS 3760.
Because of their natural inquisitiveness, lack of experience with electricity, and small physical mass, children are at much greater risk of serious injury or death from electrocution than adults.
So you need peace of mind that your appliances have been tested according to the NZS 3760 standard, by a reputable company with experience and knowledge. All at a price that won’t blow your budget.
We go the extra mile to meet your needs in the following ways…
- By being an established company you can trust, with experience in schools.
- Using experienced technicians who are specialists in this field.
- Providing real value for money for schools.
- Ensuring flexibility to fit in with your timing.
- Working after school hours or during term breaks.
Act now to ensure compliance with your obligations and protect the safety of your students.
More about Comply Guy’s test and tag service for schools…
Choose an established company you can trust
We’re test and tag experts who genuinely care about safety. We’ve been handling compliance for schools for 7 years and will ensure you’re fully compliant with your obligations.
As well as being proficient, our technicians are trustworthy and ethical. All have been chosen carefully and screened via Police checks.
Courtesy is also a priority. For example, we will never turn off a computer without first clearing it with staff. Our aim is to be as unobtrusive as possible.
We work after-hours or during school holidays
You’ve got a school to run so we are mindful of minimising disruption to staff and students. We work fast and we’re very respectful – we won’t invade the place! We can liaise with you about what works best in order to minimise disruption and even accommodate you by working outside normal hours or during school holidays.
Keeping you compliant in the future
You can count on us for reliability too. We’ll keep you compliant in the future by reminding you when it’s due, so you don’t even have to think about it. You’ll get the same consistent level of service going forward so all your compliance concerns will be sorted.
The benefit of specialist technicians
We are specialist technicians, not generalists. Sharp skills need to be honed through repetition. Test and tag work is our total focus and that makes us very fast and efficient. Which means great value for you.
Why not just use your electrician?
It could well cost you more. Most electricians have broad knowledge and work on an hourly rate. They’ll take take longer if they don’t have our high-speed testing equipment, our compliance experience and speed, or our super-efficient systems. And time is money. Which leads to the next point…

How long will it take to test and tag everything?
It depends on the number of appliances to test and their accessibility. We can test and tag 15-30 per hour in schools.
How much will it cost to test and tag everything?
It depends on the number of items to test at our quoted rate. We have developed special procedures and rates for schools that we think you’ll find very affordable.
What do we have to do to prepare for the job?
Notify your staff that we will be testing all appliances and may need them to save their work and turn off their computer for about 5 minutes. We’ll take care of everything else.
How often do we have to test and tag our electrical appliances?
It depends on the environment of the appliance. Here is an indication of the maximum interval between tests…
- Any new or untagged appliance: Before use in any work place.
- Work areas and cleaning equipment: 6 monthly.
- Schools, gyms and all other areas not mentioned: 1 yearly.
- Some office and protected appliances: 5 yearly otherwise 1 yearly.
Do we have to turn all the equipment off for you to test and tag?
This is best if possible. We can do basic safety tests with appliances on if required.
Do we really need to do it?
Yes, the MoE requires boards to comply with NZS 3760. You don’t have to use Comply Guy to test and tag, but you do have to do it.
Will you remind us when our next test is due?
Yes, we will notify you when re-testing is due.
What about asset registers?
Although we regularly create asset registers for our clients, most schools have severe budgetary constraints. Given that the Ministry does not require an asset register, most schools choose to forgo this item.
Is there any impact on our insurance policies?
Insurance policies generally require you to employ due care and diligence to prevent loss to your property. If an untagged/unsafe appliance causes a fire, your insurance claim could be denied on the grounds you did not take “reasonable care” to prevent loss to your property.
Thank you Comply Guy. Your service was friendly, efficient and thorough. Communication was excellent throughout and the process completely stress-free. I will be recommending your services to all my fellow Principals. – Matthew Crumpton, principal, Orakei School
