Our Story
Comply Guy started in 2012 with Peter and Margaret Ivin leading the helm. Back then the focus was electrical appliance testing. But life never stands still and industries change. Now Comply Guy proudly provides a very diverse range of electrical services that respond to what clients need today.
Peter is key to this, having acquired various electrical qualifications since 2012. He brings a wealth of expertise to Comply Guy and draws on the skills of other highly qualified people such as electricians, electrical appliance technicians, electrical service technicians, and electrical engineers.
This means Comply Guy now covers diverse electrical fields including electrical wiring and installation, power, lighting and mains switchboard installation, data cabling, thermal imaging, repairs and maintenance, and much more.
Comply Guy is a one-stop-shop for all things electrical. We are hardwired to solve your problems!
We stand for safety
Who can argue with safety as a worthy cause? These days, the “She’ll be right” approach is just not an option! Companies have become more safety conscious – and that’s not a bad thing.
Our focus is to meet all the electrical safety requirements to keep you safe and protect you from the risk of non-compliance.
Experience means you’re in safe hands
When you believe in safety like we do, you don’t take half measures. We have incredible depth of expertise within our organisation.
You can rest assured that all our technicians have sound theory and practical training and use the latest technology and equipment. We have a strong privacy policy to keep your information secure too. So, you’re in safe hands!
Beliefs that guide us
- We believe in doing a ‘proper’ job, never cutting corners.
- We have a practical and honest approach to everything we do. We believe people deserve an efficient, cost-effective service that works for their business.
- We believe in treating people the way we like to be treated.
Meet the guys…
Margaret Ivin, managing director
Margaret grew up in the North of England. At school it became apparent her forte was maths, so she went into accounting. Her first job was as an auditor for a chartered accounting firm.
She left England and came to NZ when her children were very young. Once established here she worked in accounts roles for medium-sized companies and corporates.
Then in 1991 Margaret and her husband Peter did something very exciting and started their own IT company. Margaret’s role was to sell their services and later, as the business grew, she took responsibility for the overall management of the company and a few key clients. She discovered she really enjoyed dealing with people, both clients and staff.
Margaret believes it’s important that customers get the best possible service. They deserve it – and it’s essential if you want your business to grow.
Next, a fresh challenge arose in the form of a mobile phone franchise which they sold in 2011.
Now Margaret is absolutely loving Comply Guy, managing the business and ensuring her clients get the very best service and care. It’s the perfect role for her and perfectly utilises her experience from the past.
Away from Comply Guy she’s often out walking to keep fit. She loves entertaining friends and loves to travel too. So far Margaret has been through Egypt, China, Finland, Dubai and parts of Europe. There’s still plenty more to see – when time permits!
Peter Ivin, compliance inspector
Even as a young boy Peter had a flair for numbers and was drawn to electrical and mechanical devices. That strong interest later led him to study informational science in computing at Victoria University of Wellington.
His first job was computer programmer and in the next job, an analyst programmer with Databank. Pete then worked for Texas Instruments until his career took another turn with an opportunity to manage Computers for People’s northern operation. And so he moved from Wellington to Auckland.
During the hard times of the early 90’s Pete & Margaret started an IT company. Pete’s role was to support, diagnose, install and maintain his clients’ computer systems. He loved the people contact, and the technical aspects suited him perfectly.
It wasn’t until many years later that Pete & Margaret sold their by then much larger IT business and got involved in mobile phones, an area that also suited Peter’s skill base well.
In between those two businesses they managed to squeeze in some travel – one of Pete’s passions (along with photography, scuba diving and skiing), taking off to Europe for a short stint.
After selling the mobile phone business late 2011 they set about looking for a business they could grow and develop into a nationwide company. And here they are!
Pete is truly in his element at Comply Guy. His boyhood fascination with all things electrical has not waned in the slightest!
